The 5th edition of OECD workshops on the quality of foreign direct investment was held online on Wednesday 31 March 2021.

The meeting was organised on the margins of the MENA-OECD Government Business Summit of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which was held from 30 March to 1 April 2021.

The 5th meeting on FDI quality is part of a series of meetings that took place following the 2019 report prepared by the Organisation on indicators to measure the quality of foreign direct investment worldwide.

FIPA's Director of General Promotion, Mr. Zied Lahbib participated in the session on the impact of FDI attraction policies on productivity and innovation.

The panel focused on how to attract innovative and high value-added investments.

The contribution of FIPA representative mainly focused on the positive impact of legal investment frameworks (e.g. the start-up act) on innovation and the attraction of quality foreign investment. Another topic raised was the importance of building dialogues between public and private operators in the establishment of sector-specific competitiveness frameworks, such as the Tunisian competitiveness pact projects in the automotive and health sectors, as well as the competitiveness pact for textiles.

In addition to the impact of FDI on innovation and productivity, the OECD FDI Quality Report also covered the effects of FDI on the quality of skills, gender policy and the impact of FDI on the achievement of carbon impact reduction targets.
