Available and Skilled Human Resources

The governorate of Ariana has a comprehensive network of schools and universities. There are 11 universities in scientific, economic and technological disciplines. These institutions train more than 13,600 students per year.

The Governorate also hosts 4 public vocational training centers and 27 private centers which provide training programs for more than 3,400 trainees and qualified professional technicians every year.

A Quality Infrastructure

The governorate has a modern basic infrastructure; access by air, sea and road is easy. Indeed, Ariana is 5 minutes from the Tunis-Carthage International Airport. The Rades port is accessible by ferry and by road. The governorate also has an extensive road network (180 km) providing connections with the neighboring governorates as well as with two light rail lines linking it to Tunis.

Several Industrial Zones, covering an area of over 140 Ha, are available and developed to host new projects.

The technological infrastructure is well developed with the existence of two technopoles :

  • Sidi Thabet BiotechPole specializing in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences applied to health

  • Elgazala Technopark specializing in Information and Communication Technologies.

A Diversified Economic Activity

  • The Economic fabric of the region is varied. It consists of nearly 300 industrial units, of which 50 % are totally exporting.

  • The leading sectors in the governorate are textiles and apparel, food processing, mechanical industries as well as leather and footwear.

  • Ariana has a financial and banking network covering the whole territory of the governorate.

Abundant Natural Resources

The governorate of Ariana is also renowned for its agricultural activity thanks to :

  • its 24,000 hectares of arable land of which 13,500 ha are irrigated to provide a wide variety of agricultural products:

    • vegetables (around 30,000 tons per year)

    • fruit trees (more than 24 thousand tons per year)

    • cereals (about 20,000 tons per year)

    • fodder (over 100 thousand tons per year).

    • industries of agriculture (around 100 tons per year).

  • Its animal production which annually provides a considerable amount of dairy and meat products:

    • 4,000 tons of red meat,

    • 2,000 tons of white meat,

    • 55,000 tons of milk.

  • Its water resources:

    • 12 hill lakes with a total storage capacity estimated at 515,000 cubic meters and a reserve of 145 000 m3),

    • 541 wells, most of which are located in the lower basin of Oued Medjerda and with a total storage capacity of 6,000,000 cubic meters.
