This governorate has a mostly rural population of 402,379 (July 2007). However, it is becoming increasingly urbanised (75.6%), which explains the concentration of the labor force in the agricultural sector (37.03%).

The town hosts four public vocational training centers and 16 private vocational training centers with a capacity of 1 590 students.

This governorate has substantial hydraulic resources: (9 879 shallow wells , 401 of which are drillings and 31 small lakes).

During the last decade, the Sidi Bouzid region has become one of the major agricultural clusters in the country. It contributes to about 20 % the national market gardening production, , 13 % of almond trees production 10 % of olive production. It is namely characterized by its early and late crops.

The region is witnessing a constantly growing development and diversification of its industrial base. It has at present 44 industrial companies 4 of which are totally exporting and 5 foreign companies.

One of the assets of the Sidi Bouzid governorate is its location on the tourism transit axis Sahel-Kairouan-Gafsa-Tozeur and its natural and historical potential (Bouhedma park, ksar Khélifa, Zanati...) which is why the transit tourism network is developing.
