Governorate of Manouba

Introduction
 

Located in the center of the governorates of northern Tunisia, between Bizerte, Zaghouan, Béja, Tunis, Ariana and Ben Arous, the governorate of Manouba is known for its agricultural and industrial activities.


Human resources
 

The governorate of Manouba has a population of 355,100 (January 2008), with an urbanization rate of 74.3%.

The region also has a university complex consisting of ten higher education institutions providing courses to over 24,448 students in various fields. These institutions are

The Manouba governorate has 5 public vocational training centers providing specialized training in electronics, clothing, ceramics, public works, etc..
These centers can accommodate can host some 4,020 trainees.


Infrastructure

This governorate has an up-to-date basic infrastructure
 
The Tunis-Carthage International Airport is 20 minutes away from the city of Manouba
A streetcar line linking Manouba to 2 neighbouring governorates (Tunis and Ariana).
A railway line linking the governorate to the north-western part of the country.
A road network linking the region to neighbouring governorates.
The commercial port of Radès is 20 minutes away from Manouba.

There are 4 developed industrial estates, 3 of which are partially occupied: Mornaguia II, Tébourba, and Jedaïda. Rentals for industrial premises range from TND 30 to TND 40 per square meter p.a.

The governorate has abundant water resources, with 24 earthfill lakes, one regular dam, and 180 million cubic metres of groundwater.

Pleasant living conditions with an electrification rate of 99,1% and a telephone network of 61.1 fixed and mobile lines per 100 inhabitants.


Major businesses
 
The region’s economic fabric is centered on agriculture and industry.
The governorate houses 192 industrial companies (providing 10 or more jobs), 108 of which are totally exporting and employ over 18,000 people.

The main production fields are textiles, clothing and leather, food processing and electric and mechanical industries.


Investment opportunities
  Several investment fields are deemed to be promising niches for the coming years, particularly:
textiles
mechanical industries (esp. automotive components)
electronic industry
vegetables (both winter and summer crops)
artichokes, potatoes
milk processing
fruit (apples and pears).
