The Zaghouan governorate has a population of 169,500 (as of January 2010). With a high schooling enrolment rate (92.7%) and a low urbanization rate (38.8%).

The following fields account for most of the workforce in employment: farming (27.5%), services (34.9%), manufacturing (25.1%) and others sectors (12.5%).

In addition, this governorate has 2 state vocational training centres, with a capacity of 1010 students, offering courses in a variety of handicrafts.

Zaghouan is 60 minutes away from the Radès commercial port.

Zaghouan is known for its rich water resources since it includes two dams, 9 hillside dams, 104 hill lakes and a ground water table of 19 m3 and a deep groundwater table of 35 m3.

Currently, the region is starting to industrialize with the establishment of 233 industrial enterprises (providing 10 or more jobs) and 141 foreign firms, of which 104 exclusively for export.

The region has a large agricultural area (282,000 ha including 185,000 of arable land and 87 thousand of pathways and forests).
